Swallow Drive Meats owner Tim Von Stanke has snagged gold for his beef sausage in the state finals of the National Sausage King competition run by the Australian Meat Industry Council.
The regional section of the competition, encompassing the Riverland and South East, took place in March where Mr Von Stanke won in four out of six categories.
He placed first with his traditional beef sausage, butter chicken sausage, lamb sausage, and spicy pork sausage.
Mr Von Stanke attended the state finals for the Sausage King competition in Adelaide at Sanctuary Catering & Events, accompanied by his wife Mel.
He competed against the other three regional categories of West Coast, Mid North and Adelaide Metropolitan.
He won with his beef sausage, earned second with his spicy pork sausage and third with his butter chicken sausage but unfortunately did not place with his lamb sausage.
Mr Von Stanke said the success was a nice surprise.
“(The beef sausage) is probably the one you want to win if you want to win any of them, being the most consumed sausage out of the lot,” he said.
“I did not think it was going to win, we have always been told they are nice, but you never expect something like that, that’s for sure.
“I will have another crack next year.
“I entered four of the six sausage categories last year so I will work to come up with sausages to put into the other categories and we will see how we go.
“I will see if I can round something up that tastes good in the continental sausage and traditional pork sausage and enter them next year.
“I just enter what I make, there is a little bit (of strategy) but we keep that to ourselves, we cannot go sharing too many trophies.”
Mr Von Stanke will now compete with his prize-winning beef sausage at the national event held in Adelaide in February next year.
