The scene was set for a big day with the top two sides of the Mount Gambier and District Baseball League Division 1 season going head to head in front a bumper crowd at Blue Lake Sports Park Saturday afternoon.
The champions Centrals were met with the full of noise contender in Tigers.
Tigers went with Karl Ransom on the hill while Centrals opened pitching duties with Dylan Chuck.
The game was a real pitcher dual as both sides limited in their hits and runs.
There was certainly no love lost with the Tigers boys and Centrals not afraid to stir the pot with each other during some good old fashioned ribbing and banter.
Centrals found first blood in the second when Dylan Chuck lined a double to right field to get Kyall McLean across to third.
This was followed with a Dylan Gull single that bought home the runs.
Tigers were kept quiet with some great pitching from Chuck and was left to rue missed opportunities as they could not capitalise on runners.
Centrals again bought two home in the fourth when Koby Chant scored both of them with his shot to the centre right gap.
With the game slipping away in the eighth inning, Tigers needed a lift and finally drew blood and clawed back two runs thanks to superstar Hayden Jones scoring Jake England.
Jones is showing a hot streak of form at the right end of the year and delivered when his side needed it most to stay in the game.
A moon shot by Tyler Horrigan to the fence then scored Jones and suddenly the margin was halved.
However, that was all she wrote and the scorers were not bothered again as the game was completed with Centrals closing out the game, winning four runs to two.
These two teams will meet again on Sunday, February 13 for the “ Pink Day” which will bring a bumper crowd and another chapter to this clash of the titans story will be written.
