CFS brigades supported

New or upgraded fire appliances have recently been delivered to the Greenways and Mount Burr brigades and five others in the MacKillop electorate.

The other beneficiaries are the CFS brigades at Mundulla, Bordertown, Spence, Joanna and Mount Benson.

Member for MacKillop Nick McBride said the seven fire appliances would improve the safety of the CFS volunteers.

“They each have a ‘halo’ system which runs water over the cabin windows to prevent them breaking in the heat of a fire,” Mr McBride said.

In other local CFS news, Millicent crews have been busy refreshing their skills for filling the water bombers at the local airport for the fire danger season.

The aircraft take less than two minutes to fill and they deliver around 2800 litres of suppressant to the fire ground.

The re-filling role is critical to enabling aircraft to be effective, as is the support of front-line fire fighters to guarantee fire suppression.
