Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce board members took centre stage at their recent ‘Ask Me Anything’ event.
The Chamber president Candice Fennell said the Ask Me Anything events were designed to help the board gain insight on what people wanted to see from the group.
“One of the things that we really felt we needed to do more was to connect with purpose to our local business community,” Ms Fennell said.
“It was a good opportunity for us to host events that are not just about what The Chamber is doing, that we can actually find out from people where are the gaps they are seeing that we can fill, for what they can or what they need and want.”
The Chamber board members discussed their updated business plan for 2022-2024 and upcoming events before the floor was open for attendees to ask questions and share ideas.
“It was really around making sure everyone was aware that we have now got our printed and finalised strategic plan,” Ms Fennell said.
“We are focusing on events, membership and governance with our core pillars of grow, connect and represent.”
Ms Fennell said connecting with the community was important to The Chamber and said further Ask Me Anything events would be held throughout the year.
“It really is just bolstering onto making sure that we have events that really do connect people,” she said.
“There are still opportunities for networking, so we are filling that space that we know The Chamber has always filled and we do that successfully.
“The next bit of it is around helping to grow the business community, so that is why we need the people here to help us help them.”
Ms Fennell was also thrilled with Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin’s attendance and contribution on the evening.
“Mayor Martin has been a long member of The Chamber board itself; she is a strong advocate from a council perspective and obviously the core membership with Chapmans Newsagency as well, we certainly feel well supported,” Ms Fennell said.
“That connection with council is important, ensuring we have got a vibrant CBD and business community and we will be taking the feedback away and doing something with that.”
