Charity toasts to high tea organisers

Little Blue Wren Gifts and Art and The Bubbly Mummy Boutique hosted a Mother’s Day High Tea fundraiser last week which raised $1000 for the Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group.

The Bubbly Mummy Boutique owner/manager Becca Healey said she wanted to give something back to the local community.

“Being Mother’s Day, we thought we will try to find a cause that is women related which is why we chose the Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group,” she said.

“We can donate to corporations in Melbourne and Sydney and what not but a lot of the time the money does not get to where it needs to be.

“I know with especially the breast cancer awareness group they are helping people locally which is incredible, and it is actually making a difference within the community that you live in, it is what it is all about.

“This is the first you have seen of us, there will be more.”

Little Blue Wren Gifts and Art owner/manager Gareth Williams said the businesses share similar views when it comes to locals supporting locals.

“One of I guess our key things when we started here especially when we took on this space was to open it up for the community and then this sort of aligned with everything that we were trying to do here,” he said.

“We got some really cool things happening between the two businesses at the moment and hopefully this will be the first of many collabs that we work together with.

“Still early days so there are lots of exciting things planned for the future.

“To have this sort of turnout we are just stoked, people have just go around it and loved the idea.”

Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group chair Jill Gilmore said she was overwhelmed with the event turnout which attracted around 60 people.

“This event from tonight blew us away a bit because we did not really know anything about these businesses,” she said.

“They have done pretty much all of it, it is a first for them.

“This thing has never been about what they can get out of it.

“The vibe is very relaxing, and it is giving young artists a go.

“We encourage the community to support the local businesses.”

Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group member Lorraine Baron said the money raised will go into the group’s Helping Hand Bags project.

“It is always important for us to have plenty of money for the Helping Hand Bags so it is very important that we do get money so we can keep that going,” she said.

“Our main fundraiser is the ‘Pink Party’ but people have been so generous to us by inviting us to things like this and we get some proceeds from it.

“We would just like to thank these people for doing this.”
