Acoalition has again been formed to organise the annual Millicent Community Christmas Appeal.
Local churches, businesses and community groups have united in the lead-up to the festive season to provide food, gifts and joy to the most vulnerable across the region.
The appeal president is again the minister of the Millicent Community Church, Pastor Shaun Mulick.
He said there was a record demand for 300 food hampers in 2023.
“While many have adjusted to this ‘new normal’, the cost of living continues to sky-rocket and raising a family is harder than ever,” Pastor Shaun said.
“We are still aiming to create around 250 hampers to alleviate financial burdens around Christmas and give the gift of hope in a hamper.
“With help, I know we can make a great difference in our community.”
Pastor Shaun said the aim of this year’s appeal was to provide Christmas hampers to individuals and families.
Furthermore, it is hoped the hampers will contain fresh fruit and vegetables, a tray of barbecue meats and a book, toy and a game for children.
The Millicent Lions Club has donated a Christmas cake for each hamper while the Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill will continue its long-running Christmas appeal sponsorship by supplying toilet paper and tissue products.
Pastor Shaun said the Millicent Community Christmas Appeal will be requesting cash and goods donations after the opening of the appeal donation drive on November 13.
Meanwhile, the third annual Community Christmas Fete will be held in the Millicent parklands between 1pm and 6pm on December 14.
As before, there will be stalls, talent show, a live nativity play, fun family challenges, Christmas Carols and an appearance by Santa Claus.
