Christmas comes thundering in

Hundreds of vehicle enthusiasts revved into the region over the weekend for the Baptist Care SA Limestone Coast Toy Run.

Since taking over the event five years ago, Baptist Care SA has raised more than $30,000 and provided more than 1000 Christmas gifts to local children in need.

The convoy of vehicles left the Endeavor Service Station at 7am to tour around the region and returned to the Railway Lands around 1pm for a show and shine with awards including the best Christmas decorated bike and car.

The event was in partnership with local charity Four Reasons Why for the first time this year with families in need to receive a gift package containing vouchers to purchase toys, food and family activity vouchers.

The toy run was supported by the local motorcycle and car clubs including the Easyriders and United Car and Motorcycle Club.

Baptist Care SA Limestone Coast area manager John Merrett said there was definitely more Christmas cheer this year with an increase in festively decorated vehicles.

“The attendance was a little down on the cars although there was a lot of other car related activities on the weekend but the cars that were there were of really high quality,” he said.

“The bikes were pretty good numbers, again fantastic quality bikes and everyone seemed to really enjoy each other’s company there.

“The Four Reasons Why ladies who were manning the donations this year, they were blown away by the generosity of everyone.

“The involvement and contributions of the businesses along the way was exceptional this year.

“Thanks everybody for their generosity and the difference it will make for the community.”

Marcus Eccles-Smith took the best Christmas decorated bike honour from last year’s winners Diane and Mark Sims.

Steve Manuel won the top rattiest car while Nathan Saunder claimed top rattiest bike.

Cate Leggett won double honours with the people’s choice award and the best Christmas decorated car.

Rob Harmer won top painted car with his shiny silver Mustang and Leon Pycroft earned top painted bike.

Top bike went to Luke Wehrmann and top car to Andrew and Kristy Janeway while Cathy and Ray Paine won the people’s choice bike award.
