Christmas giving comes back around

The Lions Club of Blue Lake City Lionesses recently donated a defibrillator to the John Frew Centre using over $2000 raised from wrapping Christmas presents at Mount Gambier Central last year.

The John Frew Centre is used by Sunset Community Kitchen, the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association, Mount Gambier Toy Library and Days for Girls Australia Mount Gambier Team.

Local Lioness publicity officer Lyn Fulton said the club wanted to give something back to the community.

“Our club also help at the Sunset Community Kitchen, and we noticed in that building there was no defibrillator,” she said.

“The closest one was across the road at the service station which would take about 10 minutes to get there and back.

“Every minute someone is having a heart attack it decreases their chance of survival by 10% and with so many community groups using the facility we thought it was important to have a defibrillator installed.

“If we never have to use it for anyone that is great, but it is now installed in case of emergency.”
