City bowls club gets season rolling

The Mount Gambier RSL Bowling Club had its official opening of the 2022/23 season on Saturday with a good attendance from members.

The day was not kind to the bowlers who suffered inclement weather for most of the day.

Luckily the rain stopped for a few minutes during the presentation and allowed the first bowl of the season to be completed.

In the unfortunate absence of president Nancye Wilson, the vice president Garry Burke conducted the procedure, firstly acknowledging all the members who had passed during the previous 12 months.

New life member Lyn Chirgwin then spoke about the founders of the club and also encouraged new and existing members to get involved with whatever they could to carry on the successful development of the club, while Kevin Davids was also awarded life membership.

It was then down to last season’s singles club champions Michael Fox and Di Adams to bowl the first bowls and open the greens for 2022/23.

All members then returned inside the club to enjoy afternoon tea after which Garry Burke acknowledged existing life members and welcomed guest Peter Clarke.
