A“red letter” day is happening at the seaside on November 25 with the official opening of the new clubrooms of the Beachport Surf Lifesaving Club at 4pm.
Outside caterers will provide a two-course meal and the adult admission price is $46.
The clubrooms are located at the Beachport Surf Beach.
Earlier this month, the club won the annual Innovation Award of Excellence from Surf Lifesaving Australia for its off-grid project at the Surf Beach.
Beachport had previously won the State Innovation award mid-year due to the combination of its clubhouse design, environmental action and making the club house completely off-grid.
The Beachport Surf Lifesaving Club provides an emergency rescue service with regular educational and fun programs.
This includes Nippers, Youth, rescue training with certifications in Surf Rescue, Bronze Medallion and First Aid.
The seaside club has grown exponentially since its formation in mid-2015 under the leadership of then Beachport police officer Brevet Sergeant Peter Phillips.
Members of what would later be formed into a steering committee organised a community consultation at Bompa’s to determine if a Surf Life Saving Club would be supported in Beachport.
There were 50 people who attended this meeting and it was decided to approach Surf Life Saving South Australia (SLSSA) for support in opening South Australia’s third regional club alongside Robe and Whyalla.
