Aformer Robe District Council deputy chief executive has been elected unopposed as the council’s deputy mayor.
Councillor Nick Brown was the sole nomination when the matter came before the February monthly meeting of the Robe District Council.
The vacancy arose when incumbent Lisa Ruffell was elevated unopposed to the mayoralty at a supplementary election.
As a coincidence, it had been the rostered turn of Cr Brown to introduce himself a few weeks ago via the monthly council newsletter.
Cr Brown has worked in local government for over two decades but only became an elected member at the November elections.
“I have lived in Robe with my wife, Pam, since 2014 apart from a brief working adventure in Alice Springs undertaking the role of Director Council Services for the Central Desert Regional Council,” Cr Brown said.
“I started my working career with Westpac Bank and worked in a number of regional/rural communities in both SA and NT.
“In February 2000 I joined Tatiara District Council and started my local government career.
“I have undertaken the CEO and deputy CEO roles during my 22 years in local government and I currently work for Kingston District Council.”
He explained his reasons to seek an elected role in 2022.
“I nominated as I have a wish to work as a team with the other Robe District Council members and the Mayor to make decisions that best represent the needs and interests of the Robe community,” Cr Brown said.
“I believe council needs to develop positive relationships with community groups and resolve several outstanding matters from the previous council’s term.
“I also wish to be part of a council that acts with respect and integrity and is accountable to the Robe community.
“I look forward to working with the Robe community to develop the strategic direction that provides the vision, goals and objectives for the future wellbeing of the community.”
