College campus expansion begins

It has been construction central at St Martins Lutheran College in recent weeks with two new classrooms being airlifted in and a roof going up over the campus’ four hardcourts – weatherproofing the college’s large sports space for years to come.

Two additional transportable classrooms were temporarily installed on one of the campus basketball courts to provide additional learning spaces while the construction of an extensive Senior School Hub takes place.

There are now four transportable classrooms, three of which are being refurbished into a new Music Centre that will include a specialist performance space with raised stage, a teaching/band room, practice rooms, staff office and storage space.

The transportable classrooms are expected to be in place for two years while the Senior School Hub build is taking place.

Principal Alan Connah said it is an exciting year for the college as it strives to provide the very best facilities for students and staff.

“With the new gymnasium our students will be able to engage in a greater range of sports, no matter what the weather is like. This will allow them greater opportunity to develop their skills and talents in this area,” Mr Connah said.

“Once the (Music Centre) facilities are completed, the college will turn its attention to the construction of a new Senior School Hub, which will provide purpose-built facilities for our senior students.

“The new hub will include spaces for a Senior Student Centre, comprised of study spaces, classrooms, meeting rooms, a common area and student heat and eat area, along with a Student Services Centre, a Learning Enrichment and Wellbeing Centre, a space for Indigenous Education, staff offices and student and staff amenities.”
