Concordes clean up softball round

It was another great weekend for Concordes in the Mount Gambier Softball league as both United and White recorded comfortable victories at Blue Lake Sports Park on Saturday in their push towards top two finishes.

Concordes White took on a much-improved Warriors White, led by Sarah Polderman at shortstop.

Polderman pulled in anything that came even remotely close to her area all day at the postion.

However, she could not stop Concordes from scoring first when a Rachel Bagshaw double plated two runs.

In the second dig it was Maddie Bowd with the two run double, taking the score to 4-0.

Billie Jones was pitching accurately and only allowed two hits and no runs through three innings.

Bagshaw was patrolling shortstop and kept Warriors scoreless with some heads-up fielding, as did Brandi Miller at second base for Concordes with a great tag to get the lead runner.

Concordes showed their pitching depth switching to gun Alli Kreplins on the mound, but Warriors got a deserved couple of runs through their lower order batters who worked hard all day to get on base.

Lyndall Feast picked a walk and Maddy Bignell reached on a fielder’s choice, with Polderman coming up clutch with an RBI single.

However, no fightback was on the cards as Concordes responded strongly in the bottom fourth banging home nine runs, highlighted by a double to Kreplins.

Erin Chaplin pitched really well throughout for Warriors and showed her cat like reflexes snagging a pulverised line drive by Maddy Sutherland, much to her relief.

In the end Concordes White cruised to a 15-2 victory.

In the other game Concordes United got off to a flier, scoring five in the first innings and did not look back.

The confidence side went even better in the second, slamming home seven runs to give themselves what was ultimately a match winning advantage after the first two digs were completed.

Despite the tough start, Demons did not give up.

Other highlights were Codie Jackway going four for four safe hits including a double, as well as using her whole body to catch a fly ball off the bat of Hayley Burner as her and Nashi McNamara had the entire outfield to cover by themselves.

Victoria Radley pitched a great game for Demons but Concordes just had too many contributors, including a bases loaded 3 RBI triple by Dana Jones.

Despite making in-roads and drawing out a lot of errors from the United field, Demons were unable to catch Concordes United In the end with the match finishing 14-8.

The third fixture between Wanderers and Warriors Blue was unfortunately forced to be rescheduled due to covid related player shortages.

This Saturday the action continues with both Warriors sides in action from 1pm at Blue Lake Sports Park.

Warriors Blue takes on Concordes United at the same time as the Warriors White v Demons clash.

The round will be concluded by Wanderers and Concordes White, who play from 3pm.
