Concordes hold flight

Concordes White continued from where the side left off last week with another impressive performance against an improved Warriors White in Mount Gambier softball on Saturday.

Concordes started off on the right foot with three runs in the first dig after safe-hits by Jo Hopgood, Sam Brown and Billie Jones. They also held Warriors in the field, thanks to accurate pitching by Jones and Hopgood covering the outfield.

Concordes extended its lead and eventually scored in every innings of the match, which was a great sign for a team with a habit of starting slow and leaving a lot to be done in the later innings.

But Warriors did not give up and finally found the scoreboard in the fourth innings as a few errors crept into the Concordes’ field. Three runs gave Warriors half a sniff at a big finish, but this was promptly snuffed out by Jones, who finished a strong performance conceding only five hits plus four strikeouts.

She also had 3 safe hits, on a day where every Concordes played recorded at least one in the 9-3 victory. Warriors Blue was forced to toil without pitcher and coach Leyna Bruggeman, but welcomed Erin Chaplin to the mound to take on Wanderers.

The match started off evenly, but everything clicked for Wanderers in the third innings. The side piled on 10 runs and effectively put the game out of Warriors’ reach. Rej Smith was best with three safe hits and four RBI’s, while she also proved effective on the mound, holding Warriors Blue to only three safe hits for the entire match.

Sarah Moretti had a beautiful three bagger in her two safe hits, while Em Hart and Jo Hart also had two safe hits for the victors. Concordes United was no match for Demons in a one-sided affair at Blue Lake Sports Park.

Bella Morale led the way with three safe-hits as Demons displayed brutal form with the bat and ball. While Concordes could not trouble the scorers, Demons flourished to record a 13-run triumph.
