Concordes White back on top

Concordes White met Wanderers for the first time this season in what promised to be a good match up.

Concordes batted first and immediately piled on the pressure with Elysha Collins, Alli Kreplins and Billie Jones helping compile a 10 run first innings.

When it was the green team’s turn Em Hart hit a line drive so hard that Rachel Bagshaw had a fraction of a second to get her glove in front of her face to take an absolute screamer of a catch at third base.

Concordes continued to build its lead, while Bagshaw was at it again in the bottom of the third, showing complete composure and control to turn a force three into a 1-3-5 double play to retire Wanderers, but not before they got on the board with Tracey Anderson hitting a RBI single to right for one of her two hits for the day.

To complete her hat trick of great plays, Bagshaw was again involved in another double play for Concordes, when shortstop Elysha Collins held the runner and threw the batter out with a laser to Jo Hopgood, who in turn sent the ball over to Bagshaw at third to catch the runner trying to sneak closer to home.

This set the tone as Concordes did not make an error in the field to win by 12 runs.

Concordes United started favourites with their red hot form but Warriors Blue took the chocolates, scoring in four of the six innings played.

Jarvo Queale was everywhere at third for Blues, snagging a key line drive catches, while being stunning in the batting box with her career first safe hit to right field.

Not to be outdone by her old Seacombe Tigers teammate, Blues Leyna Bruggemann made seven plays in the field and legging out an in the park home run.

The player of the day was Kelly Doyle for Blues, who relinquished her spot in the team to plate umpire at the last minute as her side cruised to a 7-1 win.

Demons showed their strength of old with a comprehensive victory over ladder-leader Warriors White.

Bella Morale had two safe hits and executed a sharp double play snagging a line drive off Erin Chaplin’s bat and running out Sarah Polderman.

Demons Jordi Gower threw strikes all day to rookie catcher Abbey Meinck, who smashed a double to left field to go with her earlier single.

Jorja Morale also struck two safe hits while Polderman battled on for Whites with two of her team’s four safe hits for the day.

Demons were too good running out 11-run winners.

Concordes White and Concordes United faced off in a catchup game as a double header in what proved to be the match of the round.

United had White’s measure early with pitcher Sarah Thomson causing all sorts of headaches with her off pace pitches.

United opened the scoring courtesy of Codie Jackway, but the White then got a bit of a handle on the change of pace and scored five in the second, thanks to hits from Maddy Sutherland, Brandi Miller, and Maddie Bowd.

Billie Jones pitched very consistently for White throughout and held the United batters when it mattered.

White came home full of running in the batter’s box, riding a five-run fourth dig and put on a further two in the fifth to snag the victory 13-9 and remain in top spot with their hot start to the season.
