Talented Mount Gambier singer-songwriter Anne Fraser will take to the stage at the Tamworth Country Music Festival this week.

This will be Ms Fraser’s second year performing at the annual 10-day festival.

Ms Fraser said she was excited to secure gigs at the Bush Balladeers Homestead, Lindsay Butler Studios with Shaza Leigh, Writers in the Round at the Tamworth Services Club, Tamworth Songwriters Association gigs and walk-ups with Floreena Forbes OAM.

She will also busk and perform a Fanzone spot with Golden Guitar nominee Andy Penkow, who she is collaborating with to release a duet and has a song featured on his upcoming album.

“The type of music I will be playing will be ultimately original songs, they are stories that come from a place of truth. It has been a thing that has happened, sometimes I make the story up, sometimes it comes from a poem that I have written,” Ms Fraser said.

“I try to write things that people can identify with as well. So I will be singing those originals in that bush genre and I will also talk to (singer-songwriter) Angus Gill about a song I have written that we could possibly collaborate on.”

Ms Fraser’s career has quickly taken off as she has made music for just three years, referring to herself as a storyteller.

“I am not a vocalist, I am not a guitarist, I am a storyteller. I write from the heart, I like to sing with emotion to tell the story,” she said.

“You sort of go through stages as a songwriter. Initially my songs were quite emotional, driven from hurt and experiences and then I went into more humanitarian-type songs.

“Then I have gone into some love songs and then into the bush balladeer genre, because I love the land, I love Australia, the First Nations are very, very important to me.

“I have written a couple of songs lately which have a bit of comedy in them so it has morphed, but my true genre is the country Australian ballads.”

Ms Fraser also recently recorded a song called ‘The Rains on Uluru’ in Port Augusta with Corey Noll, who has toured with Australian musical group Yothu Yindi and rock band Crowded House.

Ms Fraser said performing at the Tamworth Country Music Festival was a great opportunity to share her stories and network with like-minded artists.

“For me it is about meeting other artists and collaborations to tell my stories and listen to theirs, and just the fun and excitement of it all, it is pretty full-on up there,” she said.

“I am really grateful for the opportunities and the people who are working with me.”
