Aman has been issued a hefty fine for speeding near Bordertown over the weekend.

At about 11.30pm on Saturday, police were travelling on Dukes Highway at Cannawigara, when they saw a vehicle being driven erratically and at high speeds.

Patrols stopped the Subaru Impreza shortly after and spoke to the driver, a 20-year-old man from Victoria.

A check on the driver revealed he was the holder of a probationary driver’s licence.

He was issued a fine totalling $2832 for excessive speed, failing to display ‘P’ plates and breaching his probationary licence conditions.

He also accrued 9 demerit points and was also issued with a six month immediate loss of licence.

Meanwhile, a disqualified driver will face court after being detected drink driving on Monday at Naracoorte.

Just before 2pm, highway patrols stopped a Holden sedan on Stewart Terrace and breath-tested the driver.

He returned an alleged blood alcohol reading of 0.249.

Further enquiries revealed the man was currently disqualified.

The 38-year-old local man was reported for drink driving and drive disqualified and will be summonsed to appear in court at a date to be set.

The driver was also issued with an additional 12 month immediate loss of licence and his car was impounded.
