Cricket talent set to shine

Local cricketer Hamish Case has a bright future ahead of him as he’s recently been selected for the state’s under 19 side.

At just 17 he has been dominant in SACA Premier League for his club Tea Tree Gully, with recent star performances in the West End One Day Cup.

In round one the right armed medium pacer helped Tea Tree Gully get the win over Prospect with an incredible all-round performance picking up two wickets, two catches and a match winning 43 not out with the bat, top scoring for the game.

Case has been selected as an all-rounder, showing his talent is not one dimensional, making him an ideal pick for any selector as he’s always able to make an impact in the game.

Case said if he had to choose one discipline it would be batting.

“In the past I have been selected as a batter, so I have had the ability to improve and work hard to get to the batting ability I have now,” he said.

However, Case continues to improve in all areas.

“Lately with my back feeling better than last season I have been able to bowl and take wickets,” he said.

“I feel like my bowling confidence has grown out of sight.”

The state opportunity is not lost on Case, who feels honoured to be selected.

“You’re not just competing for yourself, but everyone in your state,” he said.

“You get to put that red cap on and play for your family, friends and more importantly your teammates.

“That feeling does not get any better.”

Case said he did not feel the pressure of playing in a team that has had players in the past such as former Australian test vice-captain Travis Head, but feels the pressure of “showing yourself on a stage such as the national champs where everyone is trying to be the best”.

Case has a great attitude to this pressure though.

“The pressure is really a mindset thing which is the best part of the game,” he said.

“Cricket is very mental and boys like Heady (Travis Head) and current Redbacks players get behind us.”

Case, who started his cricket career at Yahl, has appreciated the support the club has provided him.

“To be able to represent Tea Tree at the champs is something I have loved, that club has done so much for me and my family,” he said.

“Being able to play for SA as a Tea Tree Gully boy is just a small thing for what they do for me.”

Case said he also was grateful to the Les Favell Foundation which has provided him with financial support to travel to tournaments, greatly helping with the commute from Mount Gambier to Adelaide for training, trials and tournaments.

Case will take part in the under 19s national championships in Adelaide that will be played over the course of seven days from December 15.

He has also been named captain of Prince Alfred College’s first X1 and will be leading the school on a tour of England in June 2023.
