Curious characters and wild minds straight out of Compton

Curious characters and wild minds straight out of Compton

There were all kinds of curious creatures at Compton Primary School last week as part of Book Week 2020.

Staff and students alike came together to celebrate the event by dressing up as characters from their favourite books or inventing creative costumes under this year’s theme; “Curious Creatures, Wild Minds”, which was embraced by each and every participant.

The school gathered in the morning to parade their fantastic costumes in front of family and friends with pride and their incredible depictions of Harley Quinn, Batman and Dorothy brought smiles to plenty of faces.

Though parents were certainly thrilled to see so many extraordinary outfits, none were as overjoyed as the students in question.

Everyone from Reception to Year 7 let at least a few smiles slip during this bookish day, surrounded by so many creative minds and ideas.

As part of the celebration, students read the six shortlisted stories for the CBCA Early Childhood Book of the Year and voted for their favourites.

These stories included We’re Stuck! By Sue DeGennaro, When Billy Was a Dog by Kirsty Murray, My Friend Fred by Frances Watts, Goodbye House, Hello House by Margaret Wild, One Runaway Rabbit by David Metzenthen and Bat vs Poss by Alexa Moses.

Students enjoyed every book, though some had particular favourites, including the winner, My Friend Fred.
