Dance students hit road for competitions

Maryke Dance Academy students recently competed at the Hamilton Dance Eisteddfod and Pendulum Dance Competition in Adelaide.

The studio came away with numerous accolades for the competitions including placings in the main championship sections.

Angus Robinson and Holly Allison both competed at the Pendulum Dance Competition held at the Shedley Theatre in Adelaide.

The start of the competition saw Angus place third for his character solo and a highly commended for his tap solo.

Holly took to the stage later in the weekend for her solos and was awarded first prize for her classical solo and second in her character solo.

The last section of the competition was the Senior Classical Championship and Allison was awarded runner-up after dancing a classical and character solo.

Hamilton Eisteddfod is a long running competition and has talented dancers from all over Victoria and South Australia attend.

This competition is of an extremely high standard and all the Maryke students who attend came away with awards.

Evie Stubberfield was runner up in the 12 and Under 14 Classical Championship and earned honourable mentions in her age group for both her neo and character.

Allison earned runner up in the Senior Classical Championship as well as a first in character, second in lyrical and third in classical.

Charlotte Fewster took home an honourable mention in the Senior Classical Championship and a third in character.

Bessie Leake earned first in character, second in classical and an honourable mention in contempary.

Rounding out the academy’s results was Ella Howes with a third in jazz and Isla Carpenter who won first in tap and an honourable mention for her jazz.

Teacher Maxine Lockwood said that if you can compete in the Hamilton Eisteddfod and get a mention in any of the placings you have done very well.

“I am proud of all my students that travelled to this competition and were awarded for their hard work,” she said.

Lockwood said that her students are now working hard on the upcoming local competitions.
