The winners for Port MacDonnell’s ‘Deck The Homes’ Christmas display competition have been announced.
Organiser Gill Clayfield said a large number of houses participated in the competition with painted silage bales at the entrance of the town to kick off the festive season.
“Local artist Jeremy Ievins completed the drawings on the bales which were donated by local Phil Lewis and painted by a group of residents,” Mrs Clayfield said.
“Mr Ievins also touched them up so they looked really good and painted the bales in the paddock next door to look like a reindeer family.
“It put you into a Christmas spirit when you entered the town to view the Christmas displays.”
Mrs Clayfield said the presentations were judged by council member and Yahl resident Kylie Boston to ensure a fair competition.
“She had a look at the displays both in the daytime and at night before choosing the winners based on how appealing it was for people to look at,” she said.
“It was really great for the community and we had some fantastic displays.
“The first two houses were real standouts. First place was a $200 Shed 21 Voucher won by the Burns for their display titled The Grinch.”
The winning display was rightly named after The Grinch out the front of the house that children could sit and take their photo with and was complete with “lights everywhere” and a video of Santa flying through the sky.
Second place was a $100 Periwinkles voucher awarded to Stan Priddle for his ‘Complete Christmas’ display.
“Mr Priddle was last year’s winner with a huge display he doubled for this year’s competition,” Mrs Clayfield said.
Third and fourth place received a $50 Victoria Hotel Voucher.
“No one is in it for the prizes, they just do it because they enjoy it however the prizes are a nice bonus and I want to thank our sponsors for their contribution,” Mrs Clayfield said.
“We all enjoy the community we live in and I think things like this help build that community.”
