Long-time Millicent man Carl Futcher claimed the first prize of $1000 in the 2023 Christmas Lights Up competition
The judges recognised his efforts in superbly lighting up his home at 23 Commercial Avenue, Millicent.
Mr Futcher has decorated his home for around 20 years and there is little doubt that his decades as a KCA Millicent Mill electrician have been put to great use.
Despite Commercial Avenue being a dead-end street, dozens of vehicles would drive past the Futcher residence each night and marvel at the owner’s ingenuity and dedication.
Last year was the first time Mr Futcher had entered the contest and it paid immediate dividends.
The second prize of $500 went to 34 Bonshor Street, Millicent, while $250 was given to the third place-getter 11 Park Terrace, Millicent.
The popular vote carried a $500 cash prize and went to 2022 winner 157 Mount Gambier Road, Millicent
The Most Improved house was located diagonally opposite at 160 Mount Gambier Road.
In all, there were 19 properties entered with 15 located in Millicent and two each in Beachport and Mount Burr.
The Millicent Lights Up! Competition has been run in recent years by South East Property Sales and Management and the cash prizes are funded by this firm and five other sponsors – 3MP, Hume Taylor & Co, K&B Mitre 10, McDonalds Furniture and e-smart Electrical.
“Well done to everyone who entered into the competition: all the displays were amazing,” a South East Property Sales and Management spokesperson said.
