Reserves South Gambier d Millicent

Up until the A Grade contest, Saturday went perfectly to plan for South Gambier with all of its minor grade sides cruising to their respective 2022 Western Border Football League grand finals.

The last of the Demons sides to seal their fate was the B Grade team which had looked unbeatable all year.

Despite South’s imposing record, the unthinkable appeared a possibility early.

The Saints were on song on the first term with Clay Reilly and Matthew Withers leading the way.

Enjoying a 19-7 lead at quarter time, Millicent had every right to believe, but all hopes of a surprise were squashed quickly.

The Demons showed their destructive best by kicking five goals in each of the last three quarters to steal the lead and run away with the game.

Riley Sturges and Sam McTaggart led the assault, while Elliott Fisher was the big target up forward booting five majors, while Kym Eagleson increased his season tally to 106.

The first quarter was a distant memory by the time the final siren went with the scoreboard reading 99-34.

Under 18 South Gambier d North Gambier

When the game was up for grabs South Gambier did not give North Gambier a sniff during the Under 18’s qualifying final at McDonald Park.

All the play was locked in the Demons’ forward half with Mitchell Harrold and Lochlan Thiele controlling the play.

Once half time arrived, South was well on its way leading 35-2 with Liam Turley doing most of the damage in front of the big sticks.

Although the Tigers finally scored their first goal in the third term, the Demons continued their charge to enjoy a game-high 53-point lead.

Despite the tough day, North found its best in the last term and added some respectability to the scoreboard by kicking some late goals thanks to the efforts of Zachary Nulty and Bradley Braithwaite.

But the fast finish did little to stop South’s momentum, collecting a 76-27 win.

Under 16 South Gambier d North Gambier

Astrong four-quarter performance pushed South Gambier past North Gambier in the Under 16’s contest.

Although the Tigers showed some fight with Jonty Collins, Iowani Coleman and Teangi Stephens particularly having a crack, they were always pushing against the tide.

Often the Demons were first to the ball and enjoyed long periods of possession inside their forward 50.

This kind of dominance fronted by Jace Maxwell, Jed Sims, Rex Jones and Harry Wright ensured South was never troubled on the scoreboard.

After a clean game of football, Demons secured their grand final berth 50-16.

Under 14 South Gambier d East Gambier

South Gambier’s big day began by spoiling East Gambier’s in the Under 14 semi-final.

Being the only team from “The Kennel” gracing home turf on Saturday, there were high hopes for the Bulldogs to show some grit.

However, the Demons were in no mood for fairytales and displayed their best from the opening bounce.

The home side did not trouble the scorers across the first term, while South scored three majors.

The lead did not stop growing until the final siren as the likes of Brody Fox, Harrison Hicks and William Attiwill led from the front.

Two goals from Jaiden Picken gave East something to cheer about, but it failed to slow South which finished up with a 40-point triumph.
