Demons give Concordes White an early scare

Concordes White defeated Demons 7-3 in the Mount Gambier Softball League’s round of matches on the weekend.

Demons’ pitcher Billy Jones started the game with a dominant performance striking out the first two batters and causing a popup fly to third base.

Karley Pearson pitching for Concordes was supported with solid fielding with Rachell Bagshaw and Maddie Bowd accounting for the Demons batters.

Concordes batters began to get on top of Jones’ pitching with Kylie Doll driving the ball to deep centrefield, Lynley Pollard line drive forcing an error through shortstop.

Hanna Taylor bunted safely to advance all runners.

With bases loaded Maddie Bowd caused a fielding error to score Doll.

Aleesha Tucker’s walk advanced another run home.

Kate Altschwager’s single to leftfield scored Tucker, while Bagshaw blasted a double to centrefield, scoring another two runs followed with a single from Doll.

Demons’ Kezia Feast at shortstop stepped up and was instrumental in two plays that ended Concordes’ seven run innings.

Out of retirement Jo Hard showed she had lost none of her skills with a well-placed hit to left field to begin Demons’ second time at bat.

A grounder from Steph Chant resulted in a run before Concordes’ fielders shut down two batters and Pearson struck out the third batter.

With hits to Doll, Pollard and Taylor loaded the bases again but an excellent running catch and throw to second from Amber Clark shut down the innings without a score.
