Disability service looks to future

Social profit organisation JFA Purple Orange has hosted an online event in the Limestone Coast this month.

The first of its kind event was streamed online at City Hall due to COVID-19 with 22 people tuning in to hear about the diverse opportunities and projects the organisation provide for individuals living with disability in the region.

JFA Purple Orange SKILL Project Leader Andrew Gibson said the organisation was hopeful the community engagement project activities discussed for the next 12 months would not be affected by COVID-19.

“We have had to make changes because of COVID-19 because our main priority is to keep everyone safe,” he said.

“Workshops have been moved online and people could then discuss them in the peer network meetings when safe and appropriate rather than meeting in workshops all day.

“We hope things keep going in the way they are but obviously we are factoring in all plans and schedules that we can but flexibility has to be first and foremost now because COVID-19 is always present today.”

Mr Gibson said the group was pleased with service providers and people with disability engaging and having a discussion following the event.

“We had good engagement and online comment about what our projects are going to be doing in the region and what events we are currently holding,” he said.

“We recorded it so it can be shared for other regions which has proved to be a great initiative for us.

“I would like to thank SKILL and Our Voice SA Limestone Coast Country Connectors Kate McDonough and Rob Bawden, and SKILL project volunteer Sophie Jaffer.

“Without them it would not be possible.”
