District Court resumes

The sittings of the District Court are expected to resume in the Mount Gambier courthouse this morning.

The first local circuit for 2023 began a week ago with Auxiliary Judge Gordon Barrett as the presiding judicial officer.

He was a Queen’s Counsel and chairman of the Refugee Advocacy Service prior to his elevation to the bench in 2005.

Although he was required to retire from the bench on his 70th birthday in 2019, legislation allows him to continue as an Auxiliary Judge.
