Cross-border rivalries will create an intense first round of the 2022 Limestone Coast Women’s Football League finals series in which will light up at Casterton’s Island Park this Sunday.
After a great home and away season for all clubs the focus now shifts to finals football and for some it will be smiles and for others it will be the end.
Penola and Mundulla will go head-to-head in the Group A Elimination final.
Both sides must perform to stay alive and are coming off big wins last week.
Mundulla are a good side with sheer run and pressure and their hard tackling and will be out to make life difficult for the Eagles but the latter will provide some resistance.
Keep an eye on this game as it will be a tight contest across the ground and up forward.
Penola’s standout will be Caroline McGrath with support from Ellise Berkin and Stella Glynn up forward.
The Mundulla side combines well, but Casey McElroy, Zoe Hawker and Kellsie Turner form the engine room.
Vying for a spot in the 2022 grand final will be the top side South Gambier and the Kybybolite Tigers.
Both sides have fast experience in finals football and the coaches will be fine tuning game plans and match ups for this “Hum-Dinga” of a football game.
It will be the side who settles early and puts the score on the board that will come away with a grand final spot.
The Demons have depth to play everywhere along with the Kyby Tigers and match ups will be the key to the result.
South lead by co-captain Kendell Saffin, plus Lauren Frost, Chelsea Frost, Alice Tentye and Scarlett Creek.
These names will be a worry for the Tigers but on the flip side Kyby do have some power to nullify their unbeatable opponents.
Dellie Brown, Annabel Mould, Chloe McWhinney, Ella Jones and the big power forward Sophie Henschke will be out to gain the grand final spot.
In Group B teams for the best of rest tag and first up will be North Gambier taking on Millicent in the Elimination final where both sides are evenly matched and have some good strength which will get either side over the line.
Players to watch out for the Saints are Amy-lee Hay, Laura Chester and Courtney Pond, while for the North side Chloe Perryman, Eadie Mustart and Lorelle Walker should standout.
In the Group B qualifying game will take place next with Kongorong and Casterton Sandford.
The Cats will have the home ground advantage but everything will have to be right for the home side because Kongorong are coming of the bye last week and fresh legs might be the key to this game.
Casterton Sandford have some quality players along with the Hawks so it will be a great game to watch with run and carry football.
The Hawks will have some key players back for this game in Sarah Lucas who is the general across the back line while Jade Longbottom performs in the middle along with the run of Evie Sealy and Kate Wright.
For the Cats Scarlett Jarred, Carlie Smith, Chloe Finnigan will all be in the mix
This is the first final series for the Hawks since their inception to women’s football and they will be keen to perform.
