Another overseas-trained doctor has joined the partnership which operates the Medical Clinic Millicent
Dr Theint Thu is now the fourth partner in the practice which has been based in Short Street for over 60 years.
She joins Dr James Bushell and Dr Claire Thompson who both undertook their medical studies at universities in Adelaide and Dr Stephan Van Eeden from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.
Known as Tina, her elevation to partner comes after around 20 years of university training and post-graduate experience.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)at the University of Medicine 2, Yangon, Myanmar in 2010.
Dr Thu immigrated to Australia in 2013 and completed her residency at the Bendigo Base Hospital in Victoria, where she gained a broad experience in Psychiatric, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Geriatrics, Paediatric, Rehabilitation Medicine and Orthopaedic wards for three years.
She also worked at the Swan Hill District Hospital and Castlemaine Hospital in Victoria.
Her Australian General Practice training brought her to South Australia and placements at the Riverland General Hospital, Barmera Medical Centre and the Medical Clinic Millicent.
She enjoyed her time in Millicent and after she obtained Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in March 2020, she decided to stay on and become part of the staff of the practice.
Dr Thu enjoys all aspects of family medicine and has a special interest in Chronic Disease Management, Paediatrics, Women’s Health, Travel Medicine and Minor Surgery.
In her spare time, she enjoys keeping active and has a keen interest in bush-walking, hiking, cycling and travelling.
She speaks English and Burmese and is known for her warm and friendly manner.
