Mount Gambier general surgeon Dr Matthias Wichmann has recently been honoured with the additional title of Clinical Professor by the University of Adelaide.

Dr Wichmann has been working as a general surgeon with the Limestone Coast Local Health Network for more than 17 years.

He first came to Mount Gambier with his family from Germany.

According to the health network, Dr Wichmann has a particular interest in colorectal cancer surgery, laparoscopic surgery, emergency surgery and rural surgery and medicine, and has written many academic papers and books.

“He is also passionate about medical education and is a key mentor and educator for junior doctors and interns in our local hospitals,” said the LCLHN.

“Dr Wichmann first became an Associate Professor with both Flinders University and the University of Adelaide about 10 years ago.

“This title was recently up for renewal, which is what prompted Dr Wichmann to apply for and be awarded with the full Clinical Professor title.”
