Double dose of generosity

A winning bid at a recent Mount Gambier Racing Club fundraiser has resulted in three community groups receiving a generous donation.

A group comprising of Al Lamond, Steve Bell, Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell, Milton Bignell, Peter Creek and Mark Somerfield were the successful bidders at an auction fundraiser recently held at the Mount Gambier Racing Club.

Winning a lamb on the spit and a drinks package, the group quickly made the decision the prize could benefit a larger section of the community.

Hatching a plan with Bill Burley from the Blue Lake Golf Links, a delicious dinner was served to over 60 people, with $1200 raised from the proceeds of the dinner and a raffle, also held on the evening.

It was decided that three local community groups would be the benefactors from the night, with the funds recently handed to the Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group, Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group and Mount Gambier Riding for Disabled (RDA).

Mount Gambier RDA representative Natalie Zwar was grateful for the donation.

“This generous donation will benefit our participants as we can now progress an outside boarding ramp to make it easier for our riders,” she said Natalie Zwar.

Representatives from the Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group and the Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group said the donation was timely with both organisations having their awareness months during September and October.

Mr Burley said he was pleased to be involved with such a generous event.

“I was more than happy to support such a generous initiative which ultimately benefited three charity groups in our region,’” he said.
