South Indians travelled to Millicent in a much-anticipated Mount Gambier and District Baseball League game.
Batting first the Indians scored three.
Lead off batter Ryan Whitwell Texas leaguered to leftfield, Jett Lewis was hit by the pitcher and Ryan Placucci drew a walk, loading the bases.
Whitwell scored on a wild pitch and Ryan Walter also drew a walk again loading the bases.
Linkon Ratcliffe’s safety to centrefield batted in Lewis and Placucci was batted in by Ben Nash before side away.
Millicent returned with two of their own.
Jordan Johnson found himself at first after an error by the pitcher and Anthony Mutton singled to rightfield.
Johnson scored on Jack Hately’s hit into an out then Saxon Altschwager batted in Mutton.
In the top of the third Ben Nash was onboard after an error at second base and he was batted home by Brent Masterman’s single to centrefield.
The Bandits replied with another.
Anthony Mutton picked a walk and was batted in by Nick Cory’s hit into an infield error.
There were two more runs for South in the fourth when Wade Chant was hit by the pitcher and Jett Lewis slapped a ball out to leftfield.
Chant and Lewis both crossed home on Ryan Placucci’s double to deep centrefield and South now had a handy lead 6-3.
The bottom of the sixth saw the Bandits level the game.
Jordan Johnson was hit by a pitched ball, Anthony Mutton got onboard from a fielder’s choice, Jack Hately crunched the ball to centrefield which Johnson took advantage of and scored from second.
Saxon Altschwager then hit to short stop and with the pressure created a wild throw which scored both Mutton and Hately.
The red and white pulled ahead in the seventh.
Ryan Walter landed on first after a wild throw and Ben Nash singled to rightfield.
Walter scored on an infield error and Nash rushed home on Brent Masterman’s second single base hit.
Millicent went ahead in their turn at bat scoring what should have been a winning five runs.
Dave Langley was hit by the pitcher, Cameron Harris picked a walk and Josh Vanderhorst made it to first on a fielder’s choice.
Now two out and with bases loaded Jordan Johnson picked a walk, pushing Langley across the plate.
Anthony Mutton also got on from a fielder’s choice, Jack Hateley’s flyball to centrefield was grassed enabling Johnson and Mutton to cross the home plate.
The blue and white’s fifth run for the dig was an anti-climax when Hately scored on a passed ball and Millicent now led 11-8.
However, South were not done as Jett Lewis was thrown a base on ball, Ryan Placucci was hit by the pitcher, Ryan Walter’s single to centrefield scored Lewis, Linkon Ratcliffe’s single also to centrefield scored Placucci and finally Walter crossed, batted in by Brett Masterman.
Millicent were unable to score in the even eighth and with three hours played, time and game was called with the game ending in an 11-all draw.
South had 11 safe hits, three base on ball, four hit batters, nine runs batted in, nine strikeouts and they made five errors.
Millicent had eight safe hits, five base on ball, two hit batters, eight runs batted in, seven strikeouts and made five errors.
CENTRAL V TIGERS
Magpies’ leadoff batter Mitchell Ruwoldt hit a huge three bagger to start the game against the Tigers and was batted in by Brad Lynagh.
For Tigers in the bottom of the first, Riley Parsons picked a walk and crossed home on Matt Thompson’s hit into an error at third.
At the top of the second Jordan Carrison was hit by the pitcher and after stealing two bases scored on error at third base after a throw from the catcher.
Mitchell Ruwoldt was thrown a walk and he scored on Brad Lynagh’s safety to shortstop.
The black and orange tied the game in the bottom of the third. Riley Parsons picked his second consecutive walk as did Jake England. They were both batted in when Pat Kermond smashed a hit to left centrefield.
Central added two more in the fourth as with two out Sam Ruwoldt clobbered one to centrefield, Mitch Cutting drew a base on ball and Jake Turner batted them home with his long ball to leftfield.
They added an additional run in the very next dig when Jordan Carrison crunched a hit to rightfield and scored on Liam McDonald’s infield hit into a fielder’s choice.
Tigers pulled that run back in the even sixth. With two out Riley Parsons slammed the pitch to leftfield and crossed the home plate when Cooper Pitkin’s hit to shortstop resulted in a wild throw.
The Magpies led 6-4 and they added a bonus run in the ninth when Mitch Cutting’s Texas leaguer to leftfield landed safely and he was batted in by Blade Sturge’s double also to leftfield.
Tigers had the opportunity to score in the even inning, but the young Magpies were up to the task giving them a 7-4 win.
Central Magpies had 12 safe hits, four walks, two hit batters, six runs batted in, nine strikeouts and made five errors.
Tigers had six safe hits, five walks, four hit batters, two runs batted in, seven strikeouts and made five errors.
