John Drew is the latest life member at the Millicent Bowls Club after a special presentation.

Drew transferred from Jamestown in 1980 and joined the Millicent Bowls Club, where he has remained for more than four decades.

In that time he has served as President in 2003, Secretary in 2010, 11 and 12 plus assisted with the Treasurer’s job from time to time and spent time serving on the board.

Drew also secured some Championship Pairs more recently in 2018 and 20.

He has also been a great asset to the club with his knowledge in electronics and computing while his skills in appropriation writing has been instrumental in winning thousands of dollars for club projects over the last 15 years.

Drew installed the PA system and speakers around the club room and fixed problems whenever required with this system.

He assisted in setting up programs for accounting, did the draws for the 2-4-2 games with the computer system and was also instrumental in setting up the club website and always been willing to lend a helping hand when problems occurred.

Drew has always helped when something needed to be written and has been a leader in assisting, along with John Scudds in the writing of several policies, which were accepted and finally became part of the constitution and by-laws.

He has been instrumental in helping the club secure a $50,000 Water Grant for C Green, a $10,000 for the installation of Solar Panels, a State Grant for $40,000 in 2021 for new shelters and a Council Grant last year of $12,000 for electrical work.

These applications take days of work using the correct wording which have obtained $112,000 for projects at the Millicent Bowls Club.
