Driver arrested after pursuit

A man has been arrested following a pursuit in Mount Gambier yesterday.

Just before 2pm police attempted to stop a Holden sedan on Commercial Street West. The driver refused to stop and was seen to turn left at Avey Road disobeying a red light.

Police pursued the Holden on to Tollner Road and White Avenue where it appeared to lose control and drove on the grass verge on the eastern side of the roadway. The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons and the vehicle was last seen heading south on Carpenter Rocks Road.

A short time later, police saw the vehicle on Lock Road at Moorak where the driver was arrested.

A 45-year-old Mount Gambier man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving to escape police pursuit and driving in a dangerous manner. His vehicle was impounded for a period of 28 days and he was issued with a 12 month loss of licence. He was bailed to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on May 14.
