Discarded garbage in the vicinity of the Millicent RSL War Memorial Hall has prompted a sharp response from the local members of the RSL.
“It seems that some members of our community prefer to dump their rubbish around the town rather than taking it home and putting it in their own garbage bins,” Millicent RSL president Chris Mathias said.
“The rubbish and recycling bins at the Millicent RSL War Memorial Hall were recently overflowing with domestic garbage, and coals from a fire.
“The bins at the RSL are for RSL hall users only, not for general public rubbish.
“There are plenty of public bins scattered around the parklands, but this does not seem to deter some people from dropping their rubbish on the ground, often within a few metres of a rubbish bin.
“The area is covered by video surveillance cameras and we will be asking to have the footage reviewed to see if we can identify the culprits.”
Mr Mathias has made a direct appeal to the public for cooperation.
“If you walk your dog around town, please pick up any of its droppings as there are more and more instances, in public places, of dog ‘doings’ left lying,” he said.
“Often these are found within a couple of metres of a bin and dog waste bag dispenser.
“Please, show some respect, not just for the RSL precinct but for your fellow community members also.
“Take your rubbish home or place it in a public rubbish bin.”
