This weekend Penola Netball Club hosts its ladies day.
All netball will be finished by 1.30pm and then the ladies will be dressed in their best winter luxe fits.
The 13C side came up against Naracoorte, they have improved and caught the Eagles off guard.
However there were a lot of nice passages of play.
There were a few little goals and they were achieved.
Best player was Dya Aulukh.
After a week off the 13B girls were keen to get back on the court.
They came up against a very classy Naracoorte line up.
The girls’ defensive pressure all down the court was fantastic.
Naracoorte defence was tight and the girls worked hard in attack.
Best players were Zoe Zadow and Leah Wilson.
After a week off the 13A girls knew this was going to be a tough game.
The first quarter saw the Eagles let their nerves get the better of them being down by 10 at quarter time.
Coming into the second the girls settled and played their own game going goal for goal with Naracoorte for the rest of the game.
Braun and Manarangi worked beautifully together with top accuracy.
Best players were Harper Braun and Lani Manarangi
Division 3 had a few girls filling in from Division 2 and 13B.
Naracoorte had a good start and continued to build their lead throughout the game.
Penola tried hard for four quarters, working on being in front, meeting the ball and defensive pressure across the court.
Best players were Chloe Neale and Maddie Ellery.
The Division 2 girls came up against a strong Naracoorte side.
The girls played well, giving it their all for all four quarters.
Best players were Macey O’Brien and Matilda Marlow.
The last time Penola and Naracoorte Division 1 teams met it ended in a draw, but this time Naracoorte was determined that it was not going to be a repeat result.
From the get go of the first quarter Naracoorte came out hard, forcing Penola to turn the ball over and taking advantage of their mistakes.
In the second quarter Penola started to lift their game, but Naracoorte maintained their composure and steadily increased their score.
Penola came out fighting in the third off the back of some great defence by Stella O’Brien and Matilda Marlow.
Tess Porter held the team together with her tireless effort in the mid court as Penola managed to bring the margin back within six goals.
The final quarter was an all-out shootout battle with Tegan Lythgo and Ivy Wurst for Penola showing great movement and consistency in the circle.
But they were up against Myra Hoare and Evie Modra-Ryan who were in fine shooting form, having hardly missed many goals throughout the whole game and demonstrating why Naracoorte will be one of the sides to watch in the finals.
Best players were Stella O’Brien and Tegan Lythgo.
The C grade girls had an absolute ripper of a game, working consistently on having an open court and driving it down made for some brilliant passages of play.
Defensively Lucy and Squish worked tirelessly and made it hard for their attack line.
Leanne had an amazing game on the wing making plenty of opportunities for the shooters to feed.
Best players were Sarah Gartner and Alice Auld.
B grade had a different starting seven this week with Ava and Lauren being unable to play.
Lucy and Chicago from the C grade both stepped up and slotted in perfectly to defeat Naracoorte.
Teegan and Sarah both shot beautifully with high percentages for the game.
Jess and Monique ran hard through the mid court making a huge impact on the game and Caitlin and Jade provided many turnovers in defence helping result in a 29 goal win.
Best players were Teegan Galpin and Caitlin Eason.
in perfect conditions Penola’s A Reserve side started the game well, working hard defensively all over the court to provide plenty of attacking opportunities.
The second quarter was competitive as Naracoorte upped the pressure all over the court.
The third quarter was significant as Penola struggled with the increased physicality in the goal third.
It was a close contest all day that led to a loss.
It was a goal for goal beginning in A grade as Naracoorte’s Georgie Stott started well holding strong.
However, Jordyn Adams’ relentless pressure was tough to beat for the Naracoorte goalies.
April Possingham made a fantastic return proving unstoppable in the goal circle with pinpoint accurate feeding from Kaitlin Egan.
Although at times she was double teamed, Tegan Lythgo used that to her advantage getting herself into some great spots and finishing well.
The battle between the two centres Siobhan Adams and Georgia Gill was brilliant to watch, but from the second quarter onwards Penola really put on a clinical performance.
Timing and transition of the ball was fast and fluent and very hard to defend.
Brooke Klemm was once again a force in GK and was well supported by Chelsea Galpin who made it very difficult for her player all day.
Overall a dominant performance which will put the Eagles in good stead before some tough games in the final few rounds of the year.
