Penola had several good wins in the weekend’s round of Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara netball.
The Eagles took the court against Padthaway in wintry conditions.
Penola’s A Reserve side was missing three players this week so Ella Skeer and Caitlin and Keryn from B Grade were called in to fill the void. The girls did not skip a beat providing great drive and presence all day.
Penola got off to a slow start, but eventually found their groove late in the second and set about stretching the lead each quarter before taking the win 53-35.
Kim Wilson was excellent in defence, picking up many intercepts and was well supported by the always reliable Jade Lythgo, with the duo named best players for their efforts.
The Penola B Grade almost had a full team on the court again this week to take on Padthaway.
The Eagles had a good opening quarter and set the tone for the game. Padthaway should never be underestimated and came out firing in the second quarter.
The Penola girls refused to drop their heads and worked on the little things to ensure the Eagles stayed on top.
In the second half the sun came out and Penola started to play some good netball, getting lots of mid court turnovers and capitalising when they had the ball, taking the win 65-29
Karmel Finch’s determination and turnovers at wing defence and Teegan Galpin’s second effort turnovers and team inspiring goals earned them best on court.
The Penola C Grade team called on their juniors to hold up the fort, while Chicago Smith also made a sneaky appearance.
The wind was not super helpful but the girls did well at making possession at any opportunity.
Sarah Gartner stepped up in the circle making the most of her height while Alex and Aimee dominated in the goal ring.
Mia Gartner made her first senior appearance in the 63-23 win.
The Eagles best players were Sarah Gartner (Toffee & Treats) and Macey OBrien (Zambreros).
