Penola’s A Grade netballers went into Saturday’s KNT match eager to redeem themselves after their loss against Kybybolite earlier in the season and they did exactly that.
The first quarter started off a little messy from both sides, however, as the game settled Penola were able to use their speed on transition and whole court pressure to get some neat transitions and clean intercepts.
At the quarter time break Penola had a five goal lead.
The Eagles continued to work hard in the second and third quarters, implementing high pressure defence while Ash Merrett and Siobhan Adams found great space in attack to feed to goalies Gorgia Robbie and Tegan Lythgo to finish off.
The Kyby goalies continued to challenge Penola’s defence with some strong holds and fast drives, however, outside pressure from Hannah Klemm allowed Riley Buckingham and Maddy Teakle to get their hands on the ball.
The Eagles were able to stretch out their lead to 11 but a lapse or two saw them with an eight goal lead at three quarter time.
Penola continued to grind away in the final quarter while the Tigers kept consistent in their game, pushing all the way to the final whistle.
It was a great hit out with Penola coming away with a six goal win, 54-48.
Riley Buckingham and Maddy Teakle were named best on court for the Eagles.
Penola’s A Reserve was keen for a good hit out after a week off.
The first half was a bit sluggish for Penola’s standard, with Kyby making a great comeback in the second.
In the second half Penola pushed out the lead significantly with April Possingham shooting 53 goals at 91%.
The Eagles went on to take the win 64-36, with Karly Honner and Kim Wilson best on court for Penola.
