Eagles ready to start finals run at home

The last game of the minor season done and dusted.

Good luck to all of the teams playing in finals this year.

Today we host the qualifying final and we have a busy day ahead.

Division 1, A reserves and A grade are all hitting the court and on the oval our Reserves football are playing.

We cannot wait to have crowd filled with eager Eagles supporters.

We had a great last game. The girls really enjoyed getting out there together.

There were lots of beautiful passages of play and leading to space, particularly in the last quarter.

Best player was Saige Braun.

Under 13 a

In wet and slippery conditions both teams came out slow, playing some scrappy netball.

Once the eagles adjusted their game after quarter time, there was no stopping them with many turnovers and smooth passages of play into the goal circle, with the goalies moving well and rewarding the defenders.

The girls are excited to start its finals campaign next Sunday in Keith!

Best players were Poppy Flint and Makenna Williams.

Division 3

Well done today girls, you never gave up and gave it your all.

We created plenty of turnovers.

It has been enjoyable to coach you this season and see you progress in skills and as players.

Best players Lucy Lambert & Maddie Ellery.

Division 2

Penola girls had a ripper game to finish up the season with a win.

All playing well despite a slippery court.

Great passages of play and flow all Down the court.

Best players Grace McArthy & Matilda Marlow.

C grade

Lucindale came out firing and showed us what they’re made of.

We had to work hard for ball possession and continue to create space.

Leticia and Lucy worked overtime in the defensive circle to shut down dominant shooter Bella Minge while Chicago had a nice steady drive to control the middle.

Our attacking circle was changed with Sarah holding strong and Eva being able to pop in and out.

Sarah settled in by the second half and found the sweet spot.

Communication was key in team work and our ability to come out on top.

Great end to the home and away rounds.

We will have our work cut out for us in finals.

Best players were Leticia Gosse and Chicago Smith.

B grade

Penola B grade had its toughest game yet against a very strong and competitive Lucindale side.

With both Sarah and Monique away this week we had a different look line up with Lauren starting in GA and Lucy Catlin in WD.

We had a strong first quarter taking the lead by 4 at the break.

Unfortunately we slipped in the second and with many faults of our own let Lucindale catch up to make the scores and even 21 at half time.

Lucindale’s defence and pressure all of the court baffled the Penola girls a bit causing forced turnovers and silly fumbles but we managed to push the scoreline out by two leading into the last.

Although it was not our strongest game we were very happy to come up with the win in the end defeating Lucindale by just six goals – our closest win this

season.

We have lots to work on and I have no doubt that with a full strength team heading into the second semi at Mundulla we will be fine.

Excited to see who we come up against out of two very strong teams playing next week.

Best player were Jess Blackmore and Caitlin Eason.

A reserves
Pretty good conditions prevailed for the 1.30pm time slot. The court just needed to dry off properly.

In what was a very defensive game both teams fought hard for possession and struggled to convert. It was a real tussle with the Eagles not managing to find space down the court.

Our defensive end worked extra hard to give us more opportunity to score, which we did better as the game went on.

Heidi Berkin worked hard in the circle while Karly was often double teamed.

In the end our patience in attack paid off snd the introduction of Teegan Galpin into the circle gave us the height we needed.

Penola ‘s midcourt worked hard all day and provided great drive as well as great pressure.

Another good win and team performance leading into next weekends final.

Best players were Kim Wilson and Tara Millard.

A grade

Off to a great start, the Eagles capitalised on some fantastic turnovers with some great ball movement.

Siobhan Adams picked up from where she left off driving deep well and feeding some great balls into the goalies.

April Possingham and Tegan Lythgo looked sleek netting 21/21 between them to take the score line to seven at the first break.

However, second quarter was strong for the Roos and the Eagles could not convert.

In 15 minutes their lead was gone and found themselves on the back foot for the remainder of the game.

Lucindale was too tall for Penola at times, out-rebounding at both ends of the court.

The slippery conditions slowed the pace down which made it different for the Eagles to play their usual fast paced game.

Although there were occasions Penola had the momentum and looked to be able to get it back to even, Lucindale held on strong and stretched their lead out to eight at the final whistle.

The Eagles will take on Lucindale in the first final next week at home and with their full side, it could be a different match!

Best players were Kaitlin Egan and Tegan Lythgo.
