Eagles seek grand glory

Tigers vs Hatherleigh

The Tigers and Hatherleigh faced off in what was a preview for next week’s grand final, with Hatherleigh gaining a massive confidence boost from an important win.

Hatherleigh used its home ground advantage to the fullest in the first quarter of the round nine match.

The Eagles dominated in the middle and the forwards were given plenty of chances to take their team ahead.

The Tigers struggled to play out of the back line and found themselves under constant pressure from Hatherleigh’s forwards.

Hatherleigh held a 16-point lead at quarter time with only the Eagles’ inaccuracy in front of goal keeping North in the match.

The Tigers went scoreless again in the second quarter, while Hatherleigh struggled to convert its chances.

The first half finished with the Eagles in a comfortable position with a 25-point buffer.

The Tigers showed some fight in the third quarter to keep Hatherleigh scoreless, however the visitors could only manage the one goal.

Hatherleigh wrapped up the match in the final quarter, securing its home and away season undefeated.

The Tigers were outplayed by the team which has been the best side all year and has looked unstoppable.

The final score finished Hatherleigh 4.7 (31) to Tigers 1.1 (7), wrapping up a perfect home and away season for the Eagles.

Best players for Hatherleigh were Sebella Coghlan, Asha Gysbers, Tahnee Grosser, Kalli Nettle and Mia Gysbers, while the Tigers’ best were Kelsie Anderson, Yenna Joyce, Maggie Collins, Penny Coleman, Claire Mitchell and Jenna Baron.

The two sides now turn their attention to the grand final next week where they will meet again.
Demons vs Kyby Tigers

The Kyby Tigers finished the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League under 16 home and away season on a high with an important win over the Demons on Friday night.

Kyby went into the match tied with Demons on wins for the season and with the two sides set to face off next week in a final for third place, a win would give a major confidence boost.

Kyby started the game strongly kicking two first-quarter goals, while the Demons could only muster two behinds.

The midfield battle became a closer contest in the second term which led to South being more competitive and managing to get a goal of its own.

The Demons also were better in defence, with the Tigers only kicking the one goal from two scoring shots.

Kyby had control of the game at halftime with a 13 point lead which gave the Tigers some important breathing room going into the second half.

The Tigers capitalised on their first half momentum and delivered a match- winning third quarter performance.

Kyby completely took the game away from the Demons as the midfield began to provide plenty of opportunities to the forward line.

The Demons’ defenders struggled to cope with the extra pressure as Kyby kicked away to a 26-point lead at three quarter time.

The final quarter required a herculean effort from the Demons to get back into the match against a Kyby side with all the momentum.

Despite holding Kyby to the single goal for the quarter, the Demons were still too far behind and could only manage to boot a single major.

Kyby ran out 26-point winners as the match finished Demons 2.2 (14) to Kyby Tigers 6.4 (40).

Best players for the Tigers were Alice McKenzie, Chloe Crouch, Summer Batchelor, Evie Mott, Georgina Hahn and Matilda Brewin, while Emily Walker, Mackenzie Davis and Miley Stevens provided excellent performances in a trying effort.

There was a good spread in front of goal for Kyby with six different goal scorers for the side’s six goals.

The two sides will now face off next week at Kybybolite Oval as they duke it out for third place honours.
