South Gambier v Penola
Penola will start at the crease on day two of its match against South Gambier at Blue Lake Sports Park on Saturday.
It was a disappointing day for South on day one, only registering 83 runs in 32 overs while allowing Penola to make 197 in 44 overs.
On day two Penola will be looking to continue building on their large run total with Jack Mullan at the crease.
Mullan currently sits on 119 and will look to continue putting runs on the board while the Eagles also have Drew Clayfield who is in a good position to do some damage as he sits on 32 runs going into day two.
South are going to need Robbie Drenthen and Elwood Geary to step up with the ball as the two are yet to take a wicket yet.
Penola captain Michael Waters said his side faced a tough opponent in South.
“Heading into next week we’ll be pushing hard for second innings points, it will not be easy,” he said.
“I have no doubt South will bounce back and make it a tough day.”
West Gambier v Mil Lel
West Gambier will pick up where they left off last Saturday as they face Mil Lel at Malseed Park.
The Roos had a solid day one fielding wise, holding Mil Lel to 122 runs.
When the Roos came in to bat to close out the day it did not go as planned, with two batters falling and only making 18 runs.
Despite the Roos are still in a good position on Saturday with plenty of experience still to come down the order, including the likes of Shane de Jong and Sujith Nikethana who have shown they can put up some big run scores this season.
Mil Lel they will be looking to pull off another performance like last round against the Doggies.
In that match Mil Lel had great performances from Craig Hicks who only allowed 15 runs in 13 overs while also taking two wickets as well as Nick Walters and Thomas Rowland who both took three wickets.
This trio will need to step up again as Mil Lel has a bit more of a low score to defend.
East Gambier v North Sportsmans
East Gambier will head into bat on day two as they host North Sportsmans.
The Tigers had a big day one at the crease, making 202 runs in 68 overs which left the Doggies with a very short amount of time to close out the day with bat in hand.
In East’s eight overs at the crease they were very conservative, only making six runs.
That sets them up to have a big day on Saturday as they have a large mountain to climb in front of them.
The Doggies will need everyone to step up in this match.
Last week East were a bit inconsistent in the batting order with lots of low scores across the board.
With a score like 202 they are going to need players like Connor Little and Emerson Marks to step up after a sluggish last round.
With the ball North Sportsmans has the talent to slow down East with players like Timothy Young, Isaac Mulraney and Nick McInerney.
All three are coming off a great performance last round and have been very reliable wicket takers this season.
With a big run total to defend the pressure will be slightly off the bowlers but they will no doubt have a big performance on Saturday.
