The new Moorak preschool building was officially opened by Education Minister Blair Boyer during the Country Cabinet visit last week.
The whole school attended the opening, where Reception student Harrison Wooldridge performed a Welcome to Country and school captains Sophie Milich and Jack Flier were the MCs.
Preschool students Lucas Bourchier and Remy Scherer assisted Minister Boyer and Principal Peter Mitchinson with cutting the ribbon to officially open the building and a plaque was unveiled.
Minister Boyer said the preschool looked “fantastic” and thanked the principal, governing council members, Department for Education Limestone Coast Director Adam Box and architect Deb Aukland for their hard work.
“The most important thing is that you get the outcome that everybody was looking for and I think it’s wonderful that here we have managed to not just refurb the old preschool, but actually build a new preschool,” he said.
“I’m happy and very fortunate to be the Education Minister who gets to come down here and open this.
“We need to make sure that our education facilities in country South Australia are just as good as the ones we have in Adelaide, that’s really, really important.”
The new facility has increased preschool student capacity from 22 to 40 and includes a nature play space, sand pit, vegetable patch, dry creek bed and sensory trail.
Mr Mitchinson believed the preschool had been a “huge success” and acknowledged everyone who was involved with the project.
“What started back in 2016 as a plan to refurbish our old preschool has finished with having this, what I feel, is a world-class preschool facility,” he said.
“It’s been a long journey but we have got a facility that meets all the needs these young children need, which is building those foundations for school, so it’s just wonderful.
“I truly believe that this facility, along with our committed educators, will certainly give students at Moorak preschool the best start they could possibly have in their educational journey.”
