Epic clash ensured in do-or-die final

North Gambier V South Gambier

Finals are here for the Western Border Football League season and it all kicks off with North Gambier hosting South Gambier in an elimination final at Vansittart Park.

The winner of the match will get the chance to face off against the loser of the qualifying final between Millicent and West Gambier.

Both sides have had up and down seasons and will be giving it their all to keep the dream alive for another week.

North Gambier has met South Gambier three times this season, with both sides taking wins in the encounters.

The first two meetings North Gambier took the points, but in the second half of the season South Gambier turned its season around and became a genuine finals chance.

The win over the Tigers which gave the young side the confidence it could potentially play finals was an incredibly important four points.

The Tigers finals’ campaign this week has been announced to be Ben Hardy’s last as North Gambier coach, with the club and Hardy set to part ways at the end of the season.

Hardy will be determined to go out on a high and get his side a grand final spot in his final season.

The main players for North Gambier will be Sam Stafford and Nick McInerney.

Stafford has been a constant goal threat for the Tigers this season finishing second in the goal kickers by a single goal.

Stafford has also held the forward line together and provides many opportunities to teammates to score.

McInerney has been important in the midfield, while South Gambiers young midfield will have its work cut out for them to limit his impact during the final.

Mitchell Harold and Mitchell Sims will be the players to shut down for North Gambier, the youngsters have impressed this season and continue to play excellent footy for South Gambier.

With a spot in the preliminary finals up for grabs both sides will be desperate to grab it.

The top two sides may not be worried which team it has to face should either lose.

Neither Millicent or West Gambier has lost a game to either side this season and will be confident that it’s not going start in the finals.

Beating the sides will be a tough task for the winner so both the Tigers and the Demons will hope to send a message with a big win in this weekend’s final.

It’s do or die time, with the season on the line for both teams it’s going to be an enthralling display of finals’ footy.
