Faith strong in face of uncertainty

Newly-minted Liberal MLC Ben Hood will participate in an interfaith service for world peace in Mount Gambier at 3pm on Saturday, March 18.

Mr Hood will sing “Heal the World” while a message will be delivered by Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin.

A children’s choir will sing “we are one”.

The 3pm service for Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims will be held in the grounds of Christ Church Anglican Church on Bay Road and will be led by its parish priest Father Neil Fernando.

“As a community we feel with the people and places who grieve,” Father Neil said.

“As a gesture of solidarity, I have made an opportunity and invited the people of other faiths and cultures to come together to pray for world peace.

“There have been a great many issues across our world that continue to adversely affect many people and places.

“We have been praying for the flood victims in Australia and for those who have been affected by the fires.

“We also have been praying for the people of Ukraine and Russia.

“We pray for people in places where there is war, violence and civil unrest.

“We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.

“We pray for those who fear for tomorrow.

“We particularly remember the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria where the death toll is rising daily, destruction of homes and communities, environmental damage and loss of habitats for fauna and flora across the globe through catastrophic earthquakes, storms and flooding, and continuing conflict and lament of so many who seek recognition, safety and to be heard.”
