Fashionista hot to trot

Mount Gambier fashionista Abby Chapman is putting her best foot forward in this year’s Myer Fashions on your Front Lawn competition.

Following the success of last year’s virtual fashions on the field, the Melbourne Cup fashion event is returning this year to give entrants from all over Australia the chance to compete for more than $300,000 in luxury prizes.

Mrs Chapman will compete to be named the SA finalist, who will then contest the national final. Millicent’s Bri Scanlon last year won the SA final.

Entrants are allowed to submit up to four outfits/entries to be judged, with the SA winner to be announced in the last week of October. The national winner will be announced on Oaks Day on November 4.

Mrs Chapman has been competing in Fashions on the Field competitions for eight years and in that time has won numerous sashes.

“I put together four outfits this year with a mix of old and new items,” she said.

“I obviously love to support Mango’s Fashion Boutique when I enter and this year one outfit was purchased from the store, which I think is my favourite – a bright lime green and lavender printed dress with accessories picking up on the purple and blue in the print,” Mrs Chapman said.

“In the lead up to FOTF events I spend a lot of time online tracking down the perfect items, like the blue and purple earrings I found after a few weeks of searching every possible description to find something in the right colours.

“Some outfits are put together at the last minute, like the vintage dress I paired with Ael.Este crowns from my wedding which I only tried on the night before my photos.”

Mrs Chapman said she loved coming up with different looks and customising elements where she could.

“I’ll spend hours getting the outfits just right, down to having a lipstick to suit each one and coming up with a nail colour that will complement them all,” she said.

“It’s always a fun day to get dressed up and take the images for my entries. Unfortunately the weather was terrible on the day but I managed to hold onto my hat and get some great shots.”
