Federal race is on for seat of Barker

Asecond Mount Gambier man has nominated for the Federal seat of Barker at this year’s poll.

David Swiggs has been endorsed by Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party.

He addressed the Worldwide Rally for Freedom in Mount Gambier on Saturday.

His party has letterboxed residents of Barker over the past two years and spent considerable sums on advertising in the capital city press.

At the last poll in 2019, United Australia Party candidate and Mount Gambier candidate Bert Bacher finished fourth in a field of seven.

He polled 6259 first preferences which equated to almost 6% of the primary vote.

Fellow Blue Lake city resident and Liberal Party member Tony Pasin has held the seat since 2013 and is seeking re-election.

Meningie resident Rosa Hallum stood for the Greens at the 2019 poll and has again won endorsement by this party.

Other candidates have yet to nominate for Barker and the election must be held within four months.
