Festival fun ensured at country show

All the fun of a country fair will be on display at Mil Lel next month, with the hosting of the community’s annual show.

Mil Lel Agriculture and Horticultural Society treasurer Liza Kirby has confirmed the show will take place on October 9.

“We just want to hold a fun event with accordance to the SA Health guidelines,” she said.

“The show will include the normal COVID guidelines that people are familiar with by now so nothing too extreme. At this stage there will be social distancing, seating drink and consumption and contact tracing.

“We have unfortunately had to cancel our indoor section featuring crafts, flowers and cooking due to the restrictions required indoors.”

Mrs Kirby said the Mil Lel Show catered to all ages, but was specifically a family-based show featuring young crowd favourites including Old McDonald’s Travelling Animals nursery, Country Fire Service hose activity, a billy cart competition and “The Snake Man” David Miles.

“People are welcome to bring a picnic rug and sit down on the grass area to have some lunch,” Mrs Kirby suggested.

Unlike other regional shows, tickets will be sold at the gate and people will be turned away once capacity is reached.

“It is a smaller show, so we are not doing sessions and general admission is via the Sherwood Road gate which opens at 9.30am with activities running until 3pm,” Mrs Kirby said.

“The gate for the horse events opens at 6.30am on Kennedy Avenue continuing until 5pm. We encourage participants to nominate online for the horse events via the Mil Lel A&H Society Facebook page.”

Mrs Kirby said the event was not for profit, with most of the money raised is returned to the local community.

“The show would not be possible without our supportive community and generous sponsors including major sponsors Grant District Council, Mil Lel Primary School and Mil Lel Parks,” she said.

“We have been very fortunate to have sponsors and local businesses come forward and offer to help out during these tough times.”
