Under 13A – Saints v Hobitz
Excitement took over the Olympic Park courts last Saturday as the first rounds of 2022 Mount Gambier Netball Association finals officially got under way.
The under 13A teams of Saints and Hobitz faced off in an elimination round to secure their way into the preliminary final.
Saints dominated almost the entire match, led by Alice Mitchell and Jemma Paltridge who stood in the positions of goal shooter and goal attack respectively.
They shot everywhere, from close-ups to the classic ‘long bombs’, earning applause from the crowd.
But Hobitz fought against them the entire time and did not back down without a fight.
They intercepted the ball from the possession of mostly Mitchell and Paltridge multiple times.
Jacob Halleday who joined the game for the third quarter played excellent defence in the role of goalkeeper.
Hobitz became quick on their toes to find their way for someone to pass to and score their goals.
However, Saints still looked far too strong and came away with a massive 44-2 win.
Saints will move on to play Intruders to earn themselves a spot in the grand final with Zodiacs.
A2 – Hobitz v Intruders
Hobitz and Intruders had their game faces on as they went head-to-head for the chance to go straight into the grand finale.
The two top teams were in for a hell of a match and brought every single set of skills they had onto the court last Saturday.
Intensity and fire was going on between the players and taking charge was Sari Mutton scoring herself 29 goals for the match in the goal attack position.
Kellie Wallace was another standout for Hobitz, she played swiftly in the position of centre and goal defence and took away some brilliant intercepts that helped the team.
Intruders played extremely well, they got themselves brilliant intercepts that helped them creep up on the scoreboard throughout the game.
The fourth quarter was one for the books as nerves were seen from all sides of the court as Hobitz scored themselves to be only one goal behind.
Roars of cheers were heard from the bench and supporters but unfortunately it was not enough as Intruders lost 39-38.
Hobitz will play in the A2 grand final while Intruders face Saints to score themselves the re-match, which they know they want.
