The Mount Gambier and Districts Tennis Association 2023/24 season comes to an end after a great summer of tennis with the climax of the season happening this Saturday as the champions of each division are decided.
Division 1: First placed Uniting will play second spot West Gambier in the division 1 grand final.
Uniting has been the team to beat all season, only losing one game with that team just so happening to be West Gambier.
Back in round 3 West got the better of Uniting with a 7-5 victory.
On that day the West ladies helped get the team over the line, picking up five of the seven ladies sets.
The next time they played, Uniting levelled the score with a 7-5 victory in round 8.
The most recent time they played each other in round 13 Uniting made a statement with a 10-2 victory.
Heading into this game it’s hard not to say that Uniting is the heavy favourite but the win will not come easy with the deadly team that West has.
Division 2: Top of the ladder Suttontown/Glencoe will face third placed West Gambier Red in the division 2 grand final.
The first time the two sides played each other in round 5 West Red put up a fight, but Suttontown/Glencoe finished on top with a close 7-5 victory, while in round 10 Suttontown/Glencoe won 9-3.
That was the last time these sides played each other with round 10 happening in December last year.
There is a bit of mystery with these sides considering they have not faced each other this year.
Suttontown/Glencoe will be favourite heading into this game due to the experience in the side, its record and the fact that it has the edge over West.
Division 3: Third placed Uniting/Glencoe will play fourth spot Glencoe in the division 3 grand final.
It’s a bit of a weird sight to see the third and fourth place sides playing in a grand final but I guess it does not matter what you do during the season as long as you show up for the finals.
In the first meeting between these sides Glencoe came out on top with an 8-4 victory.
In their next and final matchup, Uniting/Glencoe bounced back and levelled the season series with a 7-5 victory.
Glencoe will be heading into this game with a lot of confidence after its upset win over the Mount Gambier side 12-1.
Uniting/Glencoe won its semi final quite easily so it too should be feeling good going into the grand final weekend.
This game is up for grabs as anything could happen in this match up.
