Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott was a special guest in Mount Gambier on Monday night for a Barker campaign event held in the lead up to this weekend’s Federal election.
The event was organised by Member for Barker Tony Pasin at the Mount Gambier RSL.
Mr Pasin said he was “incredibly honoured” to bring Mr Abbott to Mount Gambier for the event.
Friends and supporters of Mr Pasin attended the evening, where Mr Abbott made a speech and answered questions from the audience.
Mr Abbott said it was “wonderful” to be in Mount Gambier and South Australia and spoke of topics he was passionate about, including why he believed the Morrison government was worthy of re-election.
“The last couple of years have not necessarily been wonderful for people who, like most of us, believe in freedom and believe in smaller government,” he said.
“Because even in South Australia, we have had interludes of great restrictions on our freedom, we have had massive expansion of government,”
“These have been, if I may say so, pretty crazy times, and one of the things that I hope might emerge after this election is a national royal commission into exactly what’s happened over the last couple of years, the good and the bad.”
