The first show for the inaugural Coonawarra Fringe 2024 has been announced.
‘Wine Bluffs’ will be presented by Damian Callinan (The Merger) and Paul Calleja (The Project) and will kick off the weekend.
Wine Buffs will be hosted at the iconic DiGiorgio Family winery on Friday, February 16.
It is an award-winning show that pokes fun at Australian wine culture, touted as a cellar door masterclass with a comedic twist, making it the perfect show to kick off the wine strip’s Fringe.
DiGiorgio Wines’ Frank DiGiorgio said he was excited to see the Fringe make its way to Coonawarra.
“We cannot wait to host the ‘Wine Buffs’ and we have a terrific evening planned with food, and of course the wine will be flowing,” he said.
“Come along and make yourselves at home on our stunning lawn with views of the vineyards and settle in for a great night.”
One of the stars of the show, Mr Callea said he was looking forward to taking part in the Coonawarra’s first Fringe festival.
“The Wine Bluffs are so looking forward to hitting one of Australia’s great wine regions, Coonawarra,” he said.
“It is the closest wine region to Victoria, and our horse Gevrey-Chambertin may be running in the first at Penola, but we cannot wait to get over there and drink some world class cabernet in the mounting yard.”
Mr Callea said having “just returned from helping Albo open up China to the Australian wine industry again, the ‘Wine Bluffs’ were keen to impart their “world renowned expertise on the people of Coonawarra and accept any donations for sorting the whole China thing out”.
“It will be a memorable weekend,” he said.
Coonawarra Fringe producer Belinda Redman said she was looking forward to bringing quality performances to the inaugural event.
“I am so thrilled to have secured this show. I took my father, retired winemaker, Don Redman, to see ‘Wine Buffs’ many years ago and he thought they were hilarious,” she said.
“It’s the perfect show for Coonawarra, so many locals will be able to relate to this humour.”
Tickets are now available for the show.
